Town of Linn

Town 1 north, range 17 east, was set off from Geneva, January 23, 1844, and was named for Dr. Lewis Field Linn of Missouri. About one-sixth of the town's area is covered by Geneva lake. John Powers (1803-1867), a native of Maine, made his claim in section 1 in 1836 and built the first house in Linn. Soon to follow were Benjamin Ball, Allen McBride, Samuel Ryland, Israel Williams, Joseph Bailey, Thomas Baker, John Barr, Lewis Barrett, and Charles Beardsley.
