Good Shepherd Lutheran ChurchThis information was taken from "A Century of Commitment to the Community". Good Shepherd Lutheran Church was established in 1964, with the help of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Waterford, WI. At the time, St. Peter's was celebrating its 100th anniversary and the development of a "daughter" church in East Troy was a good anniversary project. After their recent remodeling St. Peter's was able to contribute many items to the new church, such as an altar, lecturn, and alterware. The first home of the church was the Helser Funeral Home on Main Street. On July 19, 1964 the first officical worship service was held. On June 20, 1965, the congregation voted on the name of the church and "Good Shepherd" was the popular choice. It wasn't long before the Good Shepherd congregation outgrew its surroundings and began to look for a new site. In July of 1968, the church purchased twenty acres of land at their present location on North Street. One year later the dedication of the new church took place. The 1980's brought the development of the school, from a nursery and kindergarten school to a full scale grade school. Copyright 2013 Walworth County Genealogical Society
