The southeastern quarter took its name from the lake, Geneva, in 1835. The towns of Bloomfield, Hudson (later Lyons), and Linn were set off in 1844. Sections 35-36 was originally named Duck Lake but is now known as Como. Elkhorn took away Section 6.

The county poor farm is in section 4.
